The Grenfell branch is a 52km branch in the state's central west. It leaves the Blayney-Demondrille line at the township of Koorawatha and head over rolling hills to the town of Grenfell. The line was built as a result of local lobbying, once the main line had opened. The line was built to "pioneer" standards, meaning light rail, earth ballast and no fencing.
Although built primarily to carry grain, the line did see reasonable passenger numbers. Indeed, in 1936 the CPH railcar was replaced with a scheduled steam train to carry the load. However declining number saw passenger services halted on 11/8/1974.
Services were suspended over the whole line in 1991, however the section to Greenethorpe was re-opened the following year to carry grain.
