The Lidcombe - Cabramatta line is used for passenger trains, and also as a short cut for long distance trains heading down the Main South line (bypassing the section through Granville, which is now known as the Old Main South).
It also provides access for freight trains to National Rail's Leightonfield yard, and the Chullora and Enfield freight yards.
